Shopping at Nakano Broadway

Hello from a cloudy Tokyo! Yesterday a storm came through and dumped a large quantity of rain on the city and surrounding areas, which meant one thing… shopping! We went over to Nakano Broadway in the afternoon since it was indoors and out of the rain.

It’s a great little shopping center with plenty to see. Mandarake operates most of the stores in the 3rd and 4th floor and many of the other shops deal largely in second hand goods. It’s typically less crowded than Akihabara and is completely indoors. Since it’s a bit less traveled, you can often find some interesting little gems!

Arriving in Tokyo and shopping in Akihabara

After spending a couple days in Hong Kong, it was time to head over to Tokyo! I have the next 8 days here for sightseeing, shopping, and generally being amazed. Unfortunately, there’s one problem that’s going to put a damper on things…

Yep, that’s rain in the forecast all the way through Tuesday… I’m leaving on Thursday afternoon. >.> Hopefully we’ll find enough to do despite the weather, but it really hinders what I want to do with photography! At least it gives me plenty of time to do shopping…

Visiting Hong Kong

It’s been awhile! A lot has happened since the last time, and I’m currently visiting Hong Kong. After almost 19 hours of traveling from Charlotte, I arrived Saturday evening to a warm and humid city. There’s plenty to see in this city, and with the limited time I have, it was time to get cracking!

First order of business was to get to my relative’s place from the airport. Hong Kong International Airport is huge and very modern. Since it’s on an island outside of the city, it’s connected to the mainland via a very large bridge. Unfortunately, I was *on* the bridge so there aren’t any pictures… Sad smile

Going to a doll meet!

Last weekend, I took the 2 hour trip up to Greensboro, NC for my very first Doll Meet Up from the Den of Angels forum. It was being held at The Doll Market, a rather large shop specializing in all sorts of dolls. They were holding an event for their 16th anniversary and had several fashion doll designers there signing dolls. Of course, DoA is for ABJD owners, so all the folks in the organized meet had various resin dolls.

Yoko goes to the garden (finally!)

Poor Yoko, she must have felt terribly neglected since Rin seems to get the preferential treatment. She gets all the nice outfits, gets to go to conventions, and has even been to the garden twice! Well, the streak ended this weekend as Yoko finally got the chance to go out! Equipped with a new set of shoes from Mimi Woo, a pair of jeans from Mai Little Alien, and a top from Dark Dollhouse, she was ready to go out!

And here she is! It was a lovely day out, with the exception of the humidity. Yoko didn’t seem to mind though, she was outside!

Welcome Sakura!

I’ve had a rash of Dollfie related updates lately and today will be no exception! After several months of waiting, Sakura has arrived at my home! Dressing Dollfies has become somewhat second nature to me by now, as has taking pictures of them in public places. I’m not sure whether or not to be happy about that or to be worried… ^.^;;

Isn’t she cute? The thing that took the most time was getting the wig on. It was hard getting it on in a place where her hair wasn’t hanging in front of her eyes. It was also the first time I’d used a silicone wig cap instead of a cloth one, so it took lots of adjustment to get everything in the right place!

Amami Haruka Dollfie project–Stage 2

Here we go! The UPS carrier dropped off a box on my doorstep today, I wonder where it’s from and what’s inside?

Shooting in Macro

After almost a month of being on back order, my first macro lens arrived on my doorstep yesterday! This is also the first non-Nikkor lens I’ve purchased and instead is made by Tokina. After a lot of research and digging through reviews, I settled on a AT-X Pro D model featuring a 100mm focal length and f/2.8 maximum aperture (at full macro mode, it stops down to f/5.6).

Nikon’s equivalent in this range is a 105mm f/2.8 with VR. Getting the first party lens comes at a price… The Nikkor cost over twice as much as the Tokina. While most reviews rate the Tokina a bit lower than the Nikkor (VR being the big differentiator), the difference in price makes the Tokina a much better bargain.
